This classic zipper backpack is an upgrade of the first pack I ever designed. At the time I had two sons in elementary school who were each going through a nylon backpack a year. So I made them leather backpacks, which they carried through the rest of their school years. As a matter of fact, I offered to make my oldest son a new one when he went off to college (I thought his was looking a little rough) but he said, "No thanks, I prefer the rugged, distressed, been around the world look of what I have."
The main compartment is 12 x 15 x 4 and there are three accessory pockets on the outside. Adjustable shoulder straps are padded with high density foam making the backpack comfortable to carry with even the heaviest loads. Our American leather is buttery soft but not delicate. The lining is water resistant rip stop nylon which adds strength to the pack. It is washable and won't wear out before the leather does. The inside seams are bound in leather. I use heavy duty nylon YKK zippers (the best) which won't wear out after a couple years. When they eventually do wear out, I can fix them for a nominal fee. This backpack is reinforced at all the stress points, built to withstand rough use for decades. It is a good investment!
